Red Hot in Tamworth 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY ~ Tamworth 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY had a fantastic time in Tamworth, bringing home lots of medals and having lots of fun

Kathryn and Belinda set off bright and early in a 'convoy' of sorts with Kelvin, Pat and Cathryn, cars packed to the brim with all our requirements for Tamworth, hats, boots and outfits galore

we love a road trip !

First night there, Kelvin and Kathryn hit the town to see as many artists as they could, and first up was Benn Gunn. Kathryn and Kelvin had choreographed to a number of Benn's songs and he was happy to catch up with them at his gig. Then it was off to see another Ben, Ben Ransom who has two songs on his latest albums that have dances to them. And then it was a visit to Wests to catch up with the awesome Grizzly Adams for a chat.

On Saturday we joined Chris Watson at his fundraising event "country in the vines" where we saw some great country artists. Kathryn and Kelvin left a bit early to go to the family concert in the park where they were on the main stage to teach 'big dog' how to dance. Kelvin taught him to 'shake it' and got the kids in the crowd to get up and join in

That night, Kelvin hosted the first social at the tennis club ... the theme was 'bright' and we certainly had some great colours ! The floor was a bit slippery for Kathryn - so she ended up making an interesting fashion statement!

a very trendy look

First day of the Australian Line Dance Championships was Choreography, and Kathryn and Kelvin had a number of dances entered in each of the sections. Kathryn got a bronze medal for her beginner dance 'don't wanna wait', in the early intermediate section Kathryn and Kelvin got a GOLD for their fun dance 'Mountain Girl' and in the unreleased section Kathryn received another bronze for 'spotlight'. Kathryn was so excited by her gold medal, even though it was a 'joint' medal - it hasn't left her hands since !!

As the winning dance, Kathryn got to work-shop it to those in attendance

yep - Kathryn was pretty excited !

Kathryn had also choreographed a dance with Linda Wolfe called 'Dance your pain away' it was co-choreographed and they had never actually danced it together until the comp ! - as it had all been done long distance. It is to an Agentha (from ABBA) song as both Linda and Kathryn are ABBA fans from way-back !!  They received lots of good feedback from it! You can see the video here

Day one of the competition was 'basic' day where we danced class routines with no fancy hat or skirt work. It was about dancing the dances well, unity and presentation. We did a great job in all of these and won a number of medals. Kathryn and Belinda were thrilled with their GOLD for the routine 'easy' which was a Chris Watson dance (and they were glad that Chris was there to watch them dance it) the team also got a GOLD and Kathryn and Kelvin were very proud of there bronze for their 'bonfire heart' routine as the over 45 category has always been a tough one to get a place in as there are some great dancers in that category. It was a great start to the competition for RED HOT and everyone was excited

Day 2 was solo's and Belinda and Robyn competed in a number of events throughout the day. Kathryn was on the scoring desk with Pat for most of the day and doing some mock judging.

Belinda got 2 silvers for her solo's.          Kathryn and Pat on the scoring table

The next few days of competition saw us dancing lots and getting lots of medals, we had a great time and got lots of lovely feedback on our dancing and how it had improved. Kathryn and Belinda got a gold for their waltz to 'train' (a countback as it was so close in score to the second place getter) they also a third in 'instructor student' for which they are very proud of.

We had such fun at our socials every night too, Kelvin and Chris Watson host them every night at the tennis club they are the BEST and HOTTEST DJ's in town and the floor is rockin' all night long ..... but the fun doesn't end there, as we always try to 'hit the town' afterwards to grab another show and had some great fun with some great friends

what happens in Tamworth .... ends up on facebook !!!

Kelvin's big at the Tamworth Tennis Club !!!

It was a great week, congrats to the LDAA for hosting the Australian Line Dance Championships, it was fun, friendly and well organised, we really enjoyed being a part of it. We all loved the socials at the Tennis Club with Chris and Kelvin, thanks guys for keeping us dancing into the night. And the daytime dancing at Shopping World that Chris hosts every year is always a lot of fun. Can't wait till next year ...........................

Dec - Jan 2014 Round up

A catch up of what RED HOT & COUNTRY has been up to for the last few months..........

Lets have a look at how RED HOT spent their December and January .......

In December we were invited back to Kemps Creek Public School for their Christmas Concert, where Kathryn, Kelvin and Erin entertained the crowds. They danced to Christmas songs and had the crowd ‘shaking it’ to Mariah Carey’s ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ and everyone had a good time and got involved in dancing along.

we love doing demo's

We held our Christmas Social and had special guest Lynda Barnes come along and sing some tracks from her new album including ‘thank you’ which was the song used for Gisela’s 80th birthday waltz. Kathryn also taught her brand new dance ‘Spotlight’ to the song of the same name. We had a great night and got to hear some wonderful live music. Lynda has a song on the album written about Kelvins late father-in-law which she also sang on the night.

lots of laughs as always at our socials

On 14 December, RED HOT was rushed off their feet with Demo after Demo. First was at St Marys Town Centre for their Christmas show, they love us at St Marys and keep inviting us back. We had a great group of our dancers join us, and the crowd got up with us as did the MC and we taught them to ‘shake it’ …. Such a fun morning

thanks to all our dancers for coming along and being part of our demos

Then Kathryn and Belinda headed off to Chatswood to do a demo and teach for Compeer which is an arm of St Vincent DePauls. Kathryn taught about 50 people on the worlds smallest dance floor and they LOVED it !! So much great feedback on the day

a fun afternoon

Then Kathryn and Kelvin headed off to a Christmas Party for the staff of a local nursing home. Over 100 people were there and Kathryn and Kelvin taught them a number of dances as well as doing a couple of demos. Their theme was ‘Wild West’ and everyone looked fabulous.

a great night had by all

because they had sooooo much energy left in them after such a ‘quiet’ day ……. Kathryn and Kelvin headed off to Ryde X to join in the Boots and Diamonds for their Christmas social. Was a fun night with some ‘interesting’ entertainment lead by Josh Talbot and Brett Jenkins !!

sometimes it's best not to ask !!!!

Kathryn with host Josh Talbot

At our fundraiser in October, we had raised funds for the Palliative Care unit at Mt Druitt where Kathryn’s Mum had spent her last days. We had a representative from the unit come and accept a ‘large cheque’ for $1320. Trish from the unit was happy to receive the money which will be used to purchase a special machine to assist in pain relief for patients. Trish stayed to watch the class lead by Kathryn and Kelvin dance ‘it never goes away’ which was the dance dedicated to Kathryn’s mother. It was a very moving night for Kathryn, but also very satisfying to hand over money for such a good cause, THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the success of the fundraiser night.

a very emotional night

RED HOT & COUNTRY began training in earnest for Tamworth, we trained just about every day with Belinda and Kathryn starting early and getting some training in between Christmas and New Year

having fun at training

Classes came back the first week in January and Kathryn and Kelvin got straight into teaching some great new dances

Kathryn loves teaching !

Most of January was spent training with Robyn, Belinda, Kathryn and Kelvin getting together every spare minute to perfect their routines for Tamworth and the Australian Championships. They had numerous routines to do, including a few in the newly created 'basic' section.

Always LOTS of laughs at our training sessions

The last few weeks of January were spent in Tamworth - a separate entry will follow

RED HOT & Country social is POSTPONED

It will now be held on SATURDAY 17th AUGUST  at Austral Bowling Club at 7pm

March - June Round up !!

March - June 'round up'

My apologies for being behind in the website, my beautiful Mum passed away in May, and I was spending my time with her ~Kathryn~

A catch up of what RED HOT & COUNTRY has been up to for the last few months  …….

After the excitement of the ball, there was more excitement for Kathryn with the birth of her first Grandchild Georgia Elizabeth, who arrived a few weeks early on Kathryn’s birthday. Kathryn already had a couple of pairs of RED HOT & COUNTRY cowboy booties and hats ready to welcome the little one.

Kelvin was off on the Seascoot cruise "working" so he tells everyone ..... not sure these pictures tell the same story. I know what happens on the cruise is supposed to stay on the cruise .... but there were rumours of an Elvis on board that looked remarkably like our DJ Kelvin

April saw RED HOT & COUNTRY visit Southern Cross for their birthday social, what a great night with dancers coming from all over to help celebrate. The floor was packed and everyone looked great in their 'red, white and blue'. It was a great celebration for the club.

April also saw the RED HOT & COUNTRY competition team of Kathryn, Kelvin, Belinda and Chris putting in many hours training for the upcoming competition in Mayworth. Perfecting moves and costumes and having lots of laughs at the same time.

On ANZAC Day Kelvin filled in for Grizzly at the band club. He played lots of Aussie classics and everyone had a great time. Thursday nights at the band club is a great place to go for lots of classic line dances with a mix of Rock and Roll

May started with a bang as the RED HOT & COUNTRY team headed off to Mayworth, unfortunately after all the training and hard work put in, Kathryn was unable to attend due to her Mum’s illness. But the team pulled together and did a great job of performing dances not in the way they had trained for them. Belinda had some great successes and brought back medals for her solo, choreography and the masters. But the whole team deserve praise for the way they supported Kathryn and still managed to compete one person down !!

Kathryn and Kelvin had fun dressing up for the One Liner bootscooters birthday. The theme was ‘wild west’ and Kelvin certainly got into character. This also saw the ‘launch’ of WILDFIRE the new all male line dance group who gave a fantastic performance. (Keep your eye on the website for more details of this group coming soon)

Of course Kelvin and Kathryn have been teaching every week at Austral and Penrith during this time. A list of dances taught is up on this website. They have released a number of new dances which are proving to be quite popular. Videos are up on the RED HOT & COUNTRY youtube channel and you can find steps sheets on all the usual places (Aussie step sheets, Copperknob, Kick it) some of our RED HOT dances include Easily Wanted, Never Goes Away, A Friend Indeed and Love to Shake It.

Another RED HOT & COUNTRY baby arrived, with Sam and Greg welcoming their daughter Eliza Jane on 27th May, a few weeks earlier than expected. All are doing great (and she's already been to her first RED HOT & COUNTRY social !!!)

The first half of June had Kathryn and Kelvin road-tripping North for the Westlake’s birthday celebrations. Another great birthday event, with over 200 people in attendance, the day started with walk-throughs of some very early dances to give some people who hadn’t danced in a while a bit of a refresher. We had a lovely lunch and danced all afternoon into the evening. Erin had a great time getting up on stage and leading the floor for a couple of dances including
one of her favourites "hello dolly"

Some of the RED HOT & COUNTRY gang joined other clubs from around Sydney for a demonstration at the GIANTS game at Skoda Stadium. There was lots of good feedback and everyone enjoyed themselves very much.

At our RED HOT & COUNTRY social in June, Kelvin taught one of his and Kathryn’s BRAND NEW dances. This dance called ‘Shaking Silver’ was choreographed especially for the Dubbo RSLYC line dancers 15th Birthday Ball that RED HOT & COUNTRY are hosting. There will be workshops as well as the Silver Social – we hope you can join us there.

Coming up next month is the RED HOT & COUNTRY birthday social. Join us as we celebrate 18 years of RED HOT linedancing. The theme is RED HOT ….. So wear your flame/fire colours of red, yellow, orange and black !! We are expecting quite a few people that night – so please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like us to book a table for you. Cost is $10, but bring some extra change for the raffle and lucky board to raise money for two great causes.
There will be lucky door prizes and lots of fun !!!!

And while you are writing that date in your diary …… also add the date for the second annual RED HOT & COUNTRY fundraiser. We had such a great success raising funds for the Cancer Council last year that we decided to make it an annual event. The charity is still being decided, but we will let you know shortly. The theme will be “come as your favourite line dance” so get your thinking caps on, as we’d love to see some great costumes on the night. More details to come. Kathryn does need donations of prizes for this event - so please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you can help
