Red Hot Round Up - October 2014

Lets have a look at how  RED HOT & COUNTRY spent October ......

The end of the year is sneaking up on us … but RED HOT is as busy as ever. The first week in October saw Kelvin fill in for Grizzly Adams at the regular Thursday night social at St Marys band club

A very happy DJ Kelvin

We received an invite to a special function hosted by Liverpool Council to say thank you to RED HOT for their donation to the Mayoral fundraising Ball which raised funds for two local charities. Kathryn and Kelvin enjoyed a lovely afternoon with the Mayor at Casula Powerhouse arts centre.

Nepean Rowing Club extended the RED HOT gig every Friday at Penrith - now known as RED HOT Friday nights. The evening starts at 6pm with a FREE DISCO for kids, with prizes for all the dancers (some of the big kids try to win too). Then after the raffle is a FREE social with all your requests all night – it is a great friendly venue and a nice place to bring the family.

From kids to RED HOT - our versatile DJ mixes it up

RED HOT training continued ready for the NSW Championships, Kathryn is a pretty hard task master at training and the junior team got to hear her ‘cranky voice’ a maybe more than once, and poor Kelvin was just worn out !!

Our junior team       I think we broke him

Then it was time for the NSW Competition, a whole weekend of dance hosted by Southern Cross Linedancers, and what a great weekend it was, there were socials each night and competition all day. Our junior team which featured our newest tiny dancer, little 4 year old Chelsea won a bronze medal for their cute routine dancing Kathryn’s dance “girls love to shake it”.  One of the highlights was Kathryn’s Beginner team getting a 4th place in the class team section dancing Wild Card which was very exciting.

So much fun crammed into one weekend

As part of the Choreography competition, Kathryn received a Gold for Wild Card and
a Silver for Always Is

Excited by her win

As always RED HOT had a great time and thank you to Liz and her organising team for all her hard work

Kathryn's beginner team

As you are no doubt aware, Kathryn and Kelvin are huge Country music fans, so when the opportunity came up to see the Bellamy Brothers locally, they jumped at it. Kathryn got VIP passes which included a backstage meet and greet. These guys are the music behind many a favourite line dance !

They were amazing ! (check out the big CD Kelvin got signed !)

Every year the gang from RED HOT & COUNTRY love heading out to Liverpool for the Lutheran Church fete, this fete is run by Hannah who is a regular at our Austral classes. RED HOT has been a part of this event for over 10 years and we love doing our demo’s there. (AND we normally pick up a bargain or two !!)

We always enjoy Hannah's demo

The next weekend was an extremely busy one for RED HOT & COUNTRY

On Friday night Kelvin was DJ and MC for the Anglicare Carers Ball which was a way to recognise and celebrate the often unsung work of carers. The theme was a masquerade ball, and it was lovely to see all the gorgeous masks. He and Kathryn also did a demonstration of their competition waltz.

Who is that masked man

While Kathryn and Kelvin were at the ball ... Penny looked after the gang at Nepean for RED HOT Friday night

Penny is our Friday night super-sub

Saturday morning there was a demo at the Kemps Creek Public School Fete, and like last year, we received a really warm welcome. As well as doing some demonstrations, we taught the crowd how to  ‘shake it’

Even the school principal learnt how to shake it

That night was our regular social, and we had a special guest DJ in the wonderful Grizzly Adams. We had a fun night and Kathryn got to act as ‘assistant DJ’ and between them kept the floor full.

A computer each for Grizzly and Kathryn

While that was happening, Kelvin was off being DJ and MC for a Country themed wedding. They had heard great feedback on Kelvin’s County music knowledge and knew he was the man for the job. The wedding was on a large property and was a beautiful evening.

Beautiful country wedding

No sleep in after the busy day … as Kathryn was one of the professional instructors who was doing a workshop dance as part of the LDAA workshop and social along with Linda Burgess, Michelle Palmer and Michelle Fong. It was a great day which was well supported by dancers. Kathryn taught “Gone with the wind” which is her latest waltz with Kelvin. It received lots of positive feedback

Kathryn with her fellow instructors

Once again, Kelvin and Kathryn left RED HOT Friday night in the hands of Penny to host the Halloween social, the room looked great, everyone dressed up and danced all night

Spooky night at Penrith

The month ended with Kelvin and Kathryn and some of the RED HOT gang attending Julie Talbot’s Halloween themed birthday social. Kathryn lead her dance ‘Don’t think twice” with Julie. Julies class did a great “Thriller” routine. Some of the costumes were amazing – and everyone had a great time.

Everyone got into the theme

After the fun evening at Julies, Kathryn and Kelvin joined the Fongs and Wendy and Helen for another late night Chinese feast. It was a wonderful way to finish off a great month.

Kathryn and Kelvin are learning all about Chinese food

Phew - no wonder we were all tired !

Till next month ……

Red Hot Round Up - August /Sept 2014

A catch up of what RED HOT & COUNTRY has been up to for the last few months..........

Lets have a look at how RED HOT & COUNTRY spent August and September 2014

AUGUST

Kathryn, Kelvin and Erin were doing lots of training for their first visit to Leeton for the annual Eisteddfod

Perfecting our hat tricks

Kathryn and Kelvin visited with Southern Cross to join Dee Musk for her workshop and we had a fun night at the black and bling social that followed

Looking hot in our black and bling

RED HOT always create videos of their dances to share on their youtube channel, and sometimes the ‘blooper’ reels are just as much fun as the dance – and the filming of Kathryn’s dance Wild Card was no exception !

Always lots of laughs !

As mentioned in the last update, due to illness Ian Lyle was not able to continue with the regular free socials at Nepean Rowing Club, but the club asked Kelvin to take over and we now have RED HOT FRIDAY NIGHTS every Friday night – a free all request social. Numbers have been growing each week and everyone is enjoying Kelvin’s mix of two old and two new requests !!

Friday night fun - Helen drove over an hour to  join us

We had our regular social at Austral and had a floor full of people all night

Kelvin shows off his best side

Then RED HOT & COUNTRY were Leeton bound as we headed to compete in the eisteddfod. Erin did her first solo’s and received gold in both of them. Kathryn also received a gold for her solo. Between the three of them they cleaned up with a swag of medals and trophies. Special mention to our friend Taylor Fardell from Dubbo who took out the encouragement award for dancing her first ever solo. We had a great weekend and were made to feel very welcome by the gang there and hope to go back next year.

Some happy snaps from the weekend

The end of the month saw Kelvin head to Maitland for the LDAA workshop and social, Kathryn was supposed to make the trip to present a workshop, but due to illness Kelvin had to fill in for her.

The instructors at the workshop

SEPTEMBER

Kathryn was still unwell and missed a few classes at the beginning of the month, but took the time to wear in her new boots while catching up on Nashville !

You recover faster wearing cowboy boots !

The RED HOT gang were invited to take part in the St Marys Spring Festival again this year, and this time did two demonstrations, one in the rain !!  Then they took part in the parade, dancing behind the van.

A little bit of rain wouldn't stop our junior girls

It was followed that night by the regular RED HOT social, which left Kathryn and Kelvin feeling rather exhausted !!

It was a loooonnnng day

Classes continued at both Austral and Penrith, with Kelvin and Kathryn teaching lots of new dances each week.

Kathryn supervises Kelvin on the floor !!

Kelvin and Kathryn were invited to host the boots and diamonds social at Ryde X club - and what a fun time they had - including a late night supper with Michael and Michelle Fong and gang !!

Fun at Ryde X

Late night super has become a bit of a tradition

During September we also did a lot of training for the NSW comp

(Kelvin has some questionable taste in clothing for training day !!)

till next time ......
